Sometime ago there’s a hoo-hah over a new Justice song that appears on Radio One that’s been titled ‘We Kids.’ Then we found out they are actually from this mystery band called Keedz that are basically bootlegging Justice’s production style, it sure sounds pretty decent for a bootleg of D.A.N.C.E. but it’s nowhere near the intricacy and the depth of the original. There are rumours going around that they are actually Justice under another moniker, I really don’t know. However, take a listen to curb your curiosity and wait for them to come out with their version of Waters of Nazareth or Phantom and we’ll see.

Less than 120 Bpm, breezy, disco-ey, builds up like crazy, insanely nostalgic melodies. Sebo does Italo this week. Ch-ch-ch-check it out.

Greetings! Happiest of New Years to everyone who’ve been popping by once in awhile since this blog started somewhere during September. As of this moment, there have been 2100 clicks in the space of 3 months. I am very happy with the statistics, but most of all, I’ve been really stoked at having the opportunity to share these music that I like to everyone round the world.
Every year round this time, music bloggers all over the world would lose a whole lotta hair stressing themselves to come up with their own top 10 lists. Many people would not see the point cause almost everyone’s doing it, but I’d be doing it too because it will put a good fullstop to this great year and then have a firm reminder of songs that I’ve played over and over and over during 2008. So here it is.
Monkeyclapeducation’s 10 Best of 2008
10. Simian Mobile Disco – Run
In collabo with Nike and I’ve mentioned that it sounds really like Kraftwerk’s Tour De France, caught them this year (very happy to see them) and I went nuts when they played this one nearing the end of the set.
Here’s the full version and my edit of it.

09. Patrice Baumel – Roar
Roar is like the best ever DJ Tool ever made. When this song’s up, I’d take a break from the banging kick drums and then close my eyes to hear it. Sometimes it sounds like trains, sometimes it sounds like V12 Engine, but it always sounds very damn good!

08. Eine Kleine Nacht Musik – La Serenissima
Riton is so underrated! And I’m dying to see his Eine Kleine Nacht Musik project get big. It will teach kids these days about every intricasy of krautrock, what made it sounds so smooth. La Serenissima has all of it.
Get it here.

07. Dj Mujava – Township Funk
Various DJs with who toured Africa regularly has been playing this one ever since 07. However, it only got released by Warp and got big in the UK this year. Been playing it non stop ever since this got into my radar!

06. Tiga & Zyntherius – Sunglasses at Night (Black Devil Disco Club Mix)
The original is so mysteriously kitschy, and new up and comers Black Devil turn it into acid disco! Tiga’s so big this year together with releases of Mind Dimension and Worm, and Black Devil is really gona make the headlines, matter of when.
Here!

05. Minilogue – Jamaica (Dubfire Remix)
This track is incredibly sick. Minimal house has never ever been this good! You have to listen to the whole damn 13 minutes and count the times you orgased.
Here it is.

04. Late of the Pier – Focker (Boys Noize Terror Remix)
We’re all very thankful to Late of the Pier for single handedly killing every new raver. The idea of being in a rock band is to not conform to layman knowledge and ideas of how things should sound and LotP totally defines this idea with their incredible album. With a little help from Alex Ridha, they’ve this legendary song.
Late of the Pier – Focker (Boys Noize Terror Remix)

03. Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down (Duke Dumont Reconstruction)
The most incredible breakdown of 2008. And mind you, 2008 sees many songs with very awesome breakdowns. This Duke Dumont remix of Mystery Jets (dropping by sunny lil Singapore for the next RSG) beats them all by a whole full notch.
Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down (Duke Dumont Reconstruction)

02. Dj Mehdi – Pocket Piano (Joakim Berger Remix)
Simply stirs your stomach whenever this one is played in a club. You find yourself suddenly in tights holding ray guns like science fiction movies from the 80s.
I have it here.

01. Popof – The Chomper (LSD Version)
And finally! Popof is another DJ that’s grossly underated! Allow me to emphasize it again, Popof is immensely underrated! For me, he’s songs and skills are definately up at the level of Sasha’s and Richie Hawtin’s. If you’ve stumbled across this list in anyway and never heard of Popof before in your life. I urge you to please download and have a listen!
Popof – The Chomper (LSD Version)
The 5 Other That Got Very Close
C’mon it’s insane to come up with just 10 songs with my shortlist having close to 60 songs, so here’s the 5 other that should’ve made it but didn’t.
Friendly Fires feat. Au Revoir Simone – Paris (Aeroplane Remix)
Sebastien Tellier – L’Amour Et La Violence
Sebo Sebo’s 2008 Best Work

In no particular order, these 3 are my favourite of all the mixtapes I’ve concocted during ’08.
Tsotsitaal Mixtape
Ravelicks 10 : The Very Melodic One
Ennui on the Wild Side
Here’s the first piece of news for 2009. Monkey Clap Education has been aggregated on Elbows, it feels pretty damn good actually, I’ve always been a big fan of Elbows and have been following the site since a few years ago to get updates from the good music blogs. Now that Monkey Clap’s on it, feels like I’m with the big boys now. Do stay tuned and subscribe to my rss, I hope to keep going at this pace next year, expect lots more! Once again, a very Happy New Year. Go easy on the booze tonight.
-Sebastian.

Heard this one from last year’s Digitalism’s Essential Mix, it’s one of the what I call “happy house” hits from Kenny Dope aka The Bucketheads. Now theres a BURNS remix, turns it into wicked wicked electro. There ya go.
The Bucketheads – The Bomb (BURNS Remix)
The Bucketheads – The Bomb (John Mazella Mix)
I’ve been wanting to post stuff from BURNS for quite sometime now. It seems the Londoner has got the skills to match with the other French electricians by the sound of his music.
Wiley – Wearing My Rolex (Burns Remix)
Empire of the Sun – We Are The People (Burns Remix)

I got it in mp3
but don’t feel so bad, you can stream it in fairtilizer. Now I really really wana attend a Justice set again, I’ve been awestruck ever since July 07 when they played at the 2nd RSG, listening to their sets from I Love Techno and Warehouse Project and watching the Across the Universe Documentary gets me so damn jealous.

Sebo Sebo – Ravelicks Volume 9 : The Very Melodic One
p.s. dammmmnnnn, i just realised Ravelicks 9 is the anti-Aoki one :S see even I’ve lost count, so this should be Ravelicks 10 instead!!! (wooohooo, 1o’s the milestone!!!) i’ve already upped it in mediafire, so help me re-tag the title, and the next one would be 11. stay tuned!

Now I’m proud of what I did that’s totally impromptu and on the fly. I didn’t construct a playlist, was partially drunk and wobbly all over, but this is what I’ve got. Doesn’t sound as tight as Ravelick of Steel, but this one’s totally raw and unexpected at times.
01. Hot Chip – Touch Too Much (Fake Blood Remix)
02. Machines Don’t Care – On a Roll
03. Drums of Death – Breathe (Curses! Remix)

Grooved to an awesome tune as I was going through my almost unmanageble music collection. N.E.R.D. really knows what’s good. First up is their remix of Daft Punk’s played to death track, and they just put their *bling blings* onto it.
Daft Punk – Harder Better Faster Stronger (Neptunes Remix) (YSI)
There’s also their theme song for the Converse spot, in collabo with the 2 most awesome artistes of recent times. We have Santogold and that guy from The Strokes together with Pharell on this one, so addictive, so damn sexy.

Breakbeat had died, just like many popular electronic subgenres in the late 90s and early 2000s. Remember Stanton Warriors, Dylan Rhymes, Adam Freeland, Evil Nine, Meat Katie and Plump DJs? Were a few of my favourite names then, many of them had moved towards a more generic electro sound or had taken a break. However, there were a few notable breaks track of late, that seems to thrive in the current scene.
First up is Breakbot, have heard of him since 06, pretty no-namer then but he’s been steadily progressing and recently, had been hot hot hot by dishing out lots of quality remixes. His music is a total fuse of the French Electro sounds with his rather signature drum beats, that is very different with many other electro musicians. Story has it that back in art school, he had a short lived collab with Justice‘s Xavier de Rosnay, failed because he wanted to do smokin trippy music while Xavier’s into handbag house.
Then there’s UK Fidgeteer Trevor Loveys, dubbing Machines Don’t Care‘s Beat Bang by hyping it up with very very funky and addictive drums, take a listen!

Poni Hoax makes like authentic Italo sounds that goes back to the 80s. Their kinda inconsistent when I first heard them, but lately, they’ve been nothing short of awesome. That’s what happen after getting signed onto Tigersushi. Now for this one, is just massive! Alter Ego are made up of old timers techno Gods, Roman Flügel and Jörn Elling Wuttke. They have not been very consistent either after 2004′s dance anthem of the year, the very rocking “Rocker.” But with this latest epic remix of Hypercommunication, both Hoax and Ego set things right.

How rad would it be if we were to pop this mashup towards the end of our set. Maybe Justice themselves should do it, it’s gona sound absofuckinglute awesome. Thanks to Sundtrack for this one and go say hi to the Starters Djs.
Justice Vs. Wu Tang Clan – C.R.E.A.M. Your Friends (Starters Mashup) (YSI)

Been months since there’s a new Ed Banger. Quentin Dupleux has always been good, music’s the kitschy French stuffs with lotsa horns, trumpets. However, the big brother of the Ed Banger crew seems to stepped up his game with this new release, sounds a little more banging, and a little more fidget. Kinda like Feadz mashed with Surkin‘s style. So many disco samples on “Gay Dentist” and Uffie‘s there again to calafare on another label mate’s track.
Mr Oizo – Steroids (ft. Uffie)
Filed under: Electro, Electro Rock, French Electro | Tags: Justice, MGMT, Soulwax

The hottest band right now, every decent music blog would have a feature on them. MGMT‘s two New Yorker that doesn’t incredibly sounding electro-rock with psychedelia and folksy influences, kinda like Ladytron but a few notches more rocking.
On top of that, Justice and Soulwax hadn’t touched (choped, caressed, groped, meshed) songs from the same band since Klaxons. So I assure you, this is gona be very very audio-orgasmic. Peep the video first with the remixes below.
MGMT – Kids (Soulwax Nite Versions)
MGMT – Electric Feel (Justice is Awesome Remix)
