Breakbeat had died, just like many popular electronic subgenres in the late 90s and early 2000s. Remember Stanton Warriors, Dylan Rhymes, Adam Freeland, Evil Nine, Meat Katie and Plump DJs? Were a few of my favourite names then, many of them had moved towards a more generic electro sound or had taken a break. However, there were a few notable breaks track of late, that seems to thrive in the current scene.
First up is Breakbot, have heard of him since 06, pretty no-namer then but he’s been steadily progressing and recently, had been hot hot hot by dishing out lots of quality remixes. His music is a total fuse of the French Electro sounds with his rather signature drum beats, that is very different with many other electro musicians. Story has it that back in art school, he had a short lived collab with Justice‘s Xavier de Rosnay, failed because he wanted to do smokin trippy music while Xavier’s into handbag house.
Then there’s UK Fidgeteer Trevor Loveys, dubbing Machines Don’t Care‘s Beat Bang by hyping it up with very very funky and addictive drums, take a listen!
