Turbo Recordings, fronted by Tiga with names like Seth Troxler, Ivan Smagghe, Thomas Von Party, Sei A and Matais Aguayo in their stable, has always been the utmost ‘quality tag’ that I possess. Continue reading

I need to talk abit about Fever Ray. Her vocals is so amazing it gives me endless goosebumps whenever i listen to the Tiga remix of triangle walks. And Tiga…dammit, he made the song so epic, the kinda rave-induced tribal experience, the first time I heard it over at Zouk…I just stood still and listen to every beat attentively cause its those songs you can tell from the start that it’s made to drive people delirious.

Went home and did the geeky stuffs, found out that Fever Ray is actually the vocalist for an old favourite Royksopp track, you know the one with the Stuart Price remix that is every self respecting dance music enthusiast’s holy grail back in 2005 🙂

So here’s an NT89 edit of Tiga’s remix, he just sped it up and added the ravey kickdrums and flangers, trying to make it more 2nd summer of love. Works effectively in my opinion but nowhere near how Tiga killed it, do have a listen to the remix I’m talking about from the mixtape of my previous post. It’s the closing track.

The Monkey Clap’s Last Post of 2008

Greetings! Happiest of New Years to everyone who’ve been popping by once in awhile since this blog started somewhere during September. As of this moment, there have been 2100 clicks in  the space of 3 months. I am very happy with the statistics, but most of all, I’ve been really stoked at having the opportunity to share these music that I like to everyone round the world.

Every year round this time, music bloggers all over the world would lose a whole lotta hair stressing themselves to come up with their own top 10 lists. Many people would not see the point cause almost everyone’s doing it, but I’d be doing it too because it will put a good fullstop to this great year and then have a firm reminder of songs that I’ve played over and over and over during 2008. So here it is.

Monkeyclapeducation’s 10 Best of 2008

10. Simian Mobile Disco – Run

In collabo with Nike and I’ve mentioned that it sounds really like Kraftwerk’s Tour De France, caught them this year (very happy to see them) and I went nuts when they played this one nearing the end of the set.

Here’s the full version and my edit of it.

09. Patrice Baumel – Roar

Roar is like the best ever DJ Tool ever made. When this song’s up, I’d take a break from the banging kick drums and then close my eyes to hear it. Sometimes it sounds like trains, sometimes it sounds like V12 Engine, but it always sounds very damn good!

Patrice Baumel – Roar

08. Eine Kleine Nacht Musik – La Serenissima

Riton is so underrated! And I’m dying to see his Eine Kleine Nacht Musik project get big. It will teach kids these days about every intricasy of krautrock, what made it sounds so smooth. La Serenissima has all of it.

Get it here.

07. Dj Mujava – Township Funk

Various DJs with who toured Africa regularly has been playing this one ever since 07. However, it only got released by Warp and got big in the UK this year. Been playing it non stop ever since this got into my radar!

06. Tiga & Zyntherius – Sunglasses at Night (Black Devil Disco Club Mix)

The original is so mysteriously kitschy, and new up and comers Black Devil turn it into acid disco! Tiga’s so big this year together with releases of Mind Dimension and Worm, and Black Devil is really gona make the headlines, matter of when.

Here!

05. Minilogue – Jamaica (Dubfire Remix)

This track is incredibly sick. Minimal house has never ever been this good! You have to listen to the whole damn 13 minutes and count the times you orgased.

Here it is.

04. Late of the Pier – Focker (Boys Noize Terror Remix)

We’re all very thankful to Late of the Pier for single handedly killing every new raver. The idea of being in a rock band is to not conform to layman knowledge and ideas of how things should sound and LotP totally defines this idea with their incredible album. With a little help from Alex Ridha, they’ve this legendary song.

Late of the Pier – Focker (Boys Noize Terror Remix)

03. Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down (Duke Dumont Reconstruction)

The most incredible breakdown of 2008. And mind you, 2008 sees many songs with very awesome breakdowns. This Duke Dumont remix of Mystery Jets (dropping by sunny lil Singapore for the next RSG) beats them all by a whole full notch.

Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down (Duke Dumont Reconstruction)

02. Dj Mehdi – Pocket Piano (Joakim Berger Remix)

Simply stirs your stomach whenever this one is played in a club. You find yourself suddenly in tights holding ray guns like science fiction movies from the 80s.

I have it here.

01. Popof – The Chomper (LSD Version)

And finally! Popof is another DJ that’s grossly underated! Allow me to emphasize it again, Popof is immensely underrated! For me, he’s songs and skills are definately up at the level of Sasha’s and Richie Hawtin’s. If you’ve stumbled across this list in anyway and never heard of Popof before in your life. I urge you to please download and have a listen!

Popof – The Chomper (LSD Version)

The 5 Other That Got Very Close

C’mon it’s insane to come up with just 10 songs with my shortlist having close to 60 songs, so here’s the 5 other that should’ve made it but didn’t.

Friendly Fires feat. Au Revoir Simone – Paris (Aeroplane Remix)

Justice – Planisphere

Sebastien Tellier – L’Amour Et La Violence

Tiga – Mind Dimension

MGMT – Kids (Soulwax Remix)

Sebo Sebo’s 2008 Best Work

In no particular order, these 3 are my favourite of all the mixtapes I’ve concocted during ’08.

Tsotsitaal Mixtape
Ravelicks 10 : The Very Melodic One
Ennui on the Wild Side

Here’s the first piece of news for 2009. Monkey Clap Education has been aggregated on Elbows, it feels pretty damn good actually, I’ve always been a big fan of Elbows and have been following the site since a few years ago to get updates from the good music blogs. Now that Monkey Clap’s on it, feels like I’m with the big boys now. Do stay tuned and subscribe to my rss, I hope to keep going at this pace next year, expect lots more! Once again, a very Happy New Year. Go easy on the booze tonight.

-Sebastian.

Ravelick 9 and Forget ‘Bout Steve Aoki

Volume 9 is here, big tracks all rounds as you can see. However, listen to the part 3/4 into the mix where I’ve included the hidden gem that is The Idjut Boy’s glitchy track blended with the very awesome Black Labelle’s remix of “Kittin is High.” I am very happy with this mix, it seems it’s almost perfect, have a listen now.

01. Proxy – Raven (Les Petits Pilous Remix)
02. Jan Driver – Rat Alert
03. Tiga – Mind Dimension
04. Bloc Party – Banquet (Boys Noize Vox Mix)
05. Mr Oizo – Positif (Midfield General Re-Edit)
06. Zombie Nation – Forza (Fukkk Off Remix)
07. Style of Eye – Girls
08. Idjut Boys – Droids 1A
09. Miss Kittin – Kittin Is High (9-11 Mix By Black Labelle)
10. ZZT – The Worm (Erol Alkan Extended Rework)
11. DJ Mujava – Township Funk
12. Muse – Knights of Cydonia (Simian Mobile Disco Remix)
13. MGMT – Kids (Soulwax Nite Versions)

And it’s everytime I look into your eyes I see the future. The proper version is hear, I urge you to play it loud loud loud. Not much more can be said bout this one cept it is so incredibly dark, dirty and very brutal.

Everyone is infront of their computer waiting for this one to leak. And Tiga is keeping it really tight there, his latest album, produced by Soulwax is gona be the bomb! We are absolutely sure about that. 2 Many Djs and Erol Alkan (above) has already dropped it into their sets, and as Pete Tong said “first played anywhere in the world in public, maybe he’s played it to his mom, and record label…” make do with the radio rip for now, apologies if you did a blog search wanting to get the full version but ended up here, I’m in the same boat.

So I can so I can, have a good reason to get a pair of Tag Hauer (above) that’s specially designed to amplify visions in low light conditions.

At the same time I’d be listening to this kickass remix of the latest Tiga and Zyntherius song. Black Devil made it sound like some psychedelic band dipping their hands in electro/new wave, I am massively impressed. Big shoutout to my lovely friend Sofie from SSSSOUND! for hooking me up with this one.

Most of the other remixes like the one from D.I.M and Yuksek cuts up the songs and adds some awesome beats to it, but they only threw in the bassline and lyrics during the breakdown, which isn’t quite of my liking. The proper way to do it would be like Tocadisco‘s, albeit it sounding like 90s kitschy techno (sometimes that ain’t a really bad thing), kept the signature bassline going throughout, comes in soft at the beginning and then builds it till the climax.

Tiga and Zyntherius – Sunglasses at Night (Black Devil Dub)

Tiga and Zyntherius – Sunglasses at Night (Tocadisco’s Heavy Mix)

New wave people would have heard of Corey Hart, big love to him for bringing us this classic tune.
